This portrait of Her Majesty is set in right-profile relief and captures the monarch with earrings and a necklace, but no crown. It was designed in 2003 by Susanna Blunt. The inscriptions on this side of the coin read ELIZABETH II, 5 DOLLARS, and 2022.

Reverse

On the reverse field of the 2022 Canadian Maple Leaf Silver Coin is a depiction of the sugar maple leaf. The sugar maple leaf was designed for the Canadian Maple Leaf Series in 1979 and was first used on the gold bullion coins. The design field includes inscriptions of CANADA, 9999, FINE SILVER, and 1 OZ ARGENT PUR.

History

In 2014, the Royal Canadian Mint unveiled two new features to the physical strike of the coins for the purposes of protecting against counterfeiting. Both sides of the coins have radial lines in the background field, while the reverse has a micro-laser engraved privy mark. This privy mark is a textured maple leaf with the digits 22 in the center. You can only see these digits under magnification.
