Issued by the Chinese Mint, the gold bullion coins of the Chinese Panda Series mark the 40th anniversary of the 1982 release. That year saw the coins released in weights of 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold. In 1983, the mint introduced a 1/20 oz gold coin as well, later improving its 1983 proof silver coin in 1989 to a BU silver coin.
Obverse
On the obverse of 2022 Chinese Panda Gold Coins is a depiction of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. The design focuses on the exterior facade of the building and its entry staircase. This side of the coin has a wider edge to the design field with inscriptions in Hanzi of THE PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF CHINA and the date mark of 2022.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2022 Chinese Panda 15 Gram Gold Coins comes with a design showing two pandas. These pandas are shown sliding down a snowy hill, with one on its back and the other on its stomach. The panda on its back is sliding down feet first, while the one on its stomach is sliding down head-first. Inscriptions on this side include 15 G, AU, .999, and 200.
History
In 2001, the Chinese Mint changed the face values on the coins to higher values for each weight. In 2016, the use of Troy oz in weighing the coins was abandoned in favor of Grams. The 1/2 oz gold coin became the 15 Gram coin.
