Inscriptions on this side read DEI GRA REGINA FID DEF and ELIZABETH II.
Reverse
The reverse design of the 2022 Quarter Sovereign Gold Coin features the Royal Arms of the United Kingdom in a special rendition created by Timothy Noad for the Platinum Jubilee of the late Queen Elizabeth II. The 2022 date mark is found on this side.
History
Great Britain Sovereign Coins are minted in various denominations, including full sovereigns, half sovereigns, double sovereigns, and quarter sovereigns. These denominations were rolled out over the course of time, with the first attempt at a Quarter Sovereign coming in 1853. The Royal Mint abandoned this weight at the time over fears that its small size would lead to quick wear in circulation.
