Obverse

On the obverse of 2022 Mexican Libertad Gold Coins, you will find a vision of the Mexican coat of arms. This design comes with a golden eagle on a prickly pear cactus. The eagle is battling a serpent using its talons and beak with its wings raised. There is an oak-and-laurel wreath below with ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS engraved above. The outer rim of the design field includes 10 historic versions of the same seal.

Reverse

The reverse side of the 2022 Mexican Libertad 1 oz Gold Coin comes with a depiction of Winged Victory. This allegorical figure took root in Mexico in the early 19th century during the nations independence movement. The statue stands at the top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column with the volcanic peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl in the background. Inscriptions include 1 ONZA, ORO PURO, 2022 LEY .999, and the OM mint mark of the Mexican Mint.

History

The Mexican Libertad 1 oz Gold Coin is the only one in the series of gold bullion coins to feature the 10 historic seals for Mexico on the obverse. The four fractional-ounce gold coins do not have a large enough field to accommodate these designs.
