History
The script for Elf was written in 1993 by David Berenbaum, a full ten years before the movie would premiere in theaters. The original screenplay had a fairly dark tone, which turned director Jon Favreau away from the project. However, after some tweaking, he was able to make the story more family-oriented. He then lined up a stellar cast including Will Ferrell, James Caan, and Zoey Deschanel, before firing up the cameras in December 2002. The film then debuted the following holiday season and his since then become a cherished Christmas classic.
