The Nunis a prequel to the 2016 filmThe Conjuring 2,which featured paranormal husband-and-wife investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren in late-Seventies London, pitted against an incarnation of the ancient demon Valak that manifested as a demonic nun. The prequel reveals how the Demon Nun escaped the underworld and was released into modern society during a misadventure in a remote Romanian abbey some twenty-five years earlier. The Demon Nun’s piercing gaze, sharp fangs, and chalky flesh made for an instant hit as an antagonist.
