Reverse
The traditional white tunic and red cross of the Knights Templar are the key elements of the shaped Chibi sculpture that forms the coin’s reverse, showing a knight ready for battle with helmet and shield, all infused with the signature adorable Chibi style.
Obverse
Although it has an unusual shape, this coin is legal tender of Niue. Its obverse side bears a profile portrait of Elizabeth II originally designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, just as seen on circulation coins in countries throughout the Commonwealth. It’s accompanied by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “2022,” “2 DOLLARS,” and “1 oz 999 Fine Silver.”
History
The Knights of the Temple of Solomon were one of the most important religious orders of knights that sprang up to fight for the Church during the age of the Crusades. They were a famously prominent presence in the Holy Land from the 12th through the 14th centuries and grew influential and powerful across Europe: particularly in the Kingdom of France which many of them originally called home. They have ever since been mainstays in popular culture representations of those events and the source of many of their own myths and stories.
