History
The lion has been an important symbol for the Czech Republic ever since Emperor Frederick added it to the coat of arms in the 12th century. The Legend of Prince Bruncvik offers one explanation, while the valor of King Otakar gives another. But the real answer is shrouded in mystery and will likely always remain so.
