Design

An effigy of the late Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse side of this rectangular coin to confirm it as legal tender of Niue. Stylized waves and abstract decorative panels form the backdrop, and are accompanied by the inscriptions “IN ARGENTUM VERITAS,” “100g FINE SIVER .9999” and “5 DOLLARS.” A decorative border at the left bears the further inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “NIUE 2022,” and “100 gram.” The reverse is blank.

History

Ever since Pressburg was first established as the royal capital of the Kingdom of Hungary in the 16th century, it has been a major community in Eastern Europe, storied as a town with a rich history of achievements as a center of trade, culture, and learning and eventually as the epicenter of the Slovak national movement. Pressburg was the site of the first sparkling wine factory outside France’s Champagne region, home to Slovakia’s oldest professional theater, and hosted a royal mint that produced the bulk of the Austro-Hungarian Empire’s coinage.
