The 2022 Niue Tarot Cards The Hermit Silver Coin is struck in the rectangular shape of a miniature Tarot card. It comes in a book-like box package along with a Certificate of Authenticity and an informative message about the Hermit’s symbolism. Obverse

The obverse side features an effigy of the late Queen Elizabeth II, verifying the coin as legal tender. This is joined by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “NIUE,” “2022” and “2 DOLLARS.”

History

The symbolism of the New Zealand Mint’s Tarot Cards collection is based on the world’s most popular Tarot deck, named the Rider-Waite deck after the company that first published it and the scholar, Edward Waite, who designed his version of the traditional Tarot in 1909. Waite was famous for saying: “The true Tarot is symbolism; it speaks no other language and offers no other signs.” He worked with illustrator Pamela Colman Smith, a fellow mystic, to craft the detailed and symbolism-rich cards that expressed this principle. Their work became immensely influential: there are now estimated to be more than 100 million Rider-Waite decks circulating in countries all over the world.
