In the obverse design of the 2022 Proof British Memorial Quarter Sovereign Coin, the Royal Mint features the first-ever King Charles III effigy. This design from Martin Jennings flips the orientation to left-profile relief and does not feature a crown. Inscriptions include CHARLES III and DEI GRAT REX FID DEF.
Reverse
For the reverse field of 2022 Proof Memorial Quarter Sovereign Gold Coin, the mint offers a design from Jody Clark. This image shows the Royal Arms with the coat of arms of the United Kingdom, the Lion of England, and the Unicorn of Scotland. The inscriptions include DIEU ET MON DROIT and 2022.
History
The Proof Memorial Sovereign issue is the first in the series to feature King Charles III. These are the first Sovereigns in more than 70 years to feature a monarch other than Queen Elizabeth II.

These 2022 Proof British Memorial Quarter Sovereign Gold Coins are available in individual presentation boxes with a Certificate of Authenticity included. Of the 6,480 gold coins issued in the Quarter Sovereign release, only 3,000 are packaged inside individual boxes.
