History
The film Bambi was adapted from a novel by European author Felix Salten. Salten published the book in 1923 and then sold the film rights to an American director named Sidney Franklin a decade later. Franklin desired to adapt it into a live-action film, but upon realizing the difficulty of such an endeavor, he gave the rights to Disney in 1937.
