Obverse
The obverse of this coin features a stunning orange tiger at home in the jungle or forest. The tile work is done in homage to the Portuguese art heritage of the Macau area, as the Peninsula was once under Portuguese control. Inscriptions on the obverse of this coin include MACAU, CHINA, 500 PATACAS and 2022 in both English and Chinese characters. To add to the design of the obverse, the characters are presented in a way to show the shape of the Macau Peninsula. The entire thing is then offset with a ring of gold Swarovski crystals.
Reverse
The ring of gold crystals can be seen on the reverse of the 2022 Proof Macau Lunar Tiger Gold Coin too. Inside the ring, the inscriptions spell out the name of the church: ST. LAWRENCE’S CHURCH, IGREJA DE S. LOURENCO and Chinese characters spelling out the same. At the bottom, inscriptions state 1/2 OZ 999.9 AU. Inside the inscriptions is a detailed depiction of the front of St. Lawrence’s Church, a historic church in Macau.

History
St. Lawrence’s Church is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site in Macau. It was built in the 1500s and is still a working church today. St. Lawrence is the patron saint of navigation, and the church is also referred to as the Church of Smooth-sailing Winds.
