History

In the years following World War II, America became a hotbed for paranoia and conspiracy theories. This was in part due to Russian expansion in Europe and the fear of communism in the West. Fear and uncertainty became the dominant mood for many in the country, which helped precipitate the events of 1947. Initially, there were reports of discs flying at 1200 MPH over the Western region of the US. When a rancher found strange debris in his pasture just outside of Roswell, New Mexico, many suspected this was linked to the flying discs that had been reported. In fact, the military in Roswell seemed to agree with this notion before quickly backtracking and stating the debris belonged to a weather balloon. But it was too late. Conspiracy theories around the event sprung forth, and 75 years later they have not let up.
