The eagle raises its wings as it uses its talons and beak to battle a serpent. The eagle is perched on a prickly pear cactus and the field features an inscription of ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS above the eagle. Below the eagle, you will find a wreath of oak and laurel.

Reverse

For the reverse field of 2022 Proof Libertad 1/4 oz Gold Coins, you will find the image of Winged Victory. Based on the goddess Victoria, she is honored as a symbol of victory in war. Her figure is seen here at the top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column as she extends her right hand holding a laurel wreath and clutches broken chains in her left hand. History

The Proof Mexican Libertad 1/4 oz Gold Coin was the first of the five to debut during the annual-release run. Prior to the 2004 release of this weight, the only previous coin in the series was the 1/2 oz gold coin issued in 1989. In 2005, all five weights in the series were issued together for the first time. The highest mintage recorded for the 1/4 oz coin was 2,600 coins in 2005.
