History

Leadbeaters possum, named after taxidermist John Leadbeater, is the official state animal of Victoria. These forest fairies sleep all day and then leap from tree to tree at night in search of food. A typical diet consists of spiders, crickets, and other arthropods. They also rely on tree sap for energy. Because only a few thousand of these creatures remain, you may have difficulty ever spotting one yourself. They are exclusive to Victoria, Australia, and are listed as endangered.
