Provident Metals is delighted to be able to offer the latest in the New Zealand Mint’s line ofThe Lord of the Ringscollectibles, a beautiful pure silver coin dedicated to the ambiguous character of Gollum. At once pitiable and villainous, he haunts the steps of the heroes throughout the film trilogy, always scheming to get his hands on the One Ring of Power. He could shift from cringing to ferocious snarling at a moment’s notice, and it’s the snarling version of him that features on the 2022 Proof Niue Colorized The Lord of the Rings Gollum 1 oz Silver Coin.
The 2022 Proof Niue Colorized The Lord of the Rings Gollum Silver Coin features an extraordinary blend of frosted and colorized artwork set against a brilliant, mirrored background with a proof-like finish. It arrives in a themed, high-quality coin case that includes a magnetized display insert and a Certificate of Authenticity to identify each coin’s unique number in the mintage.
The Gollum of the big screen had two personalities. one cowardly and one ruthless and fierce, and the coin’s obverse side features the second of those personalities, snarling and crouching with the gates of Mordor in the background. The image is fully colorized, frosted and raised to enhance its contrast with the mirrored backdrop. Small inscriptions show the copyright and trademark of New Line Productions and verify the coin’s silver contents.
On the obverse is Ian Rank-Broadley’s classic effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, specifying the coin as legal tender. It’s joined by the inscriptions “Elizabeth II,” “Niue,” “Two Dollars” and “2022.”
The bestselling books of J.R.R. Tolkien first brought Gollum to the attention of generations of fans. The landmark film adaptations by Peter Jackson gave him new layers of complexity and made him a major part in a sprawling blockbuster trilogy that forever changes New Zealand’s film industry and the modern movie business as a whole. Thanks to a brilliant performance by his actor, Andy Serkis, Gollum caught the imagination of new generations of fans and makes a fine subject for a New Zealand Mint collectible.
