History
Gimli is briefly referenced in The Hobbit as he wishes to join his father in Thorins company to reclaim Erebor. Though he is 62 years old, for a dwarf he is young and determined to be too young to accompany his father and the others. In the follow-up novel, The Lord of the Rings, Gimli becomes a mainstay in the series as a battle partner to the elf, Legolas.
