History
The FIFA World Cup Trophy is the second trophy used in the history of the tournament. From 1930 to 1970, the Jules Rimet Trophy was awarded to the World Cup champion every four years. This trophy, which is named after the tournaments founder, has had quite a tumultuous history. First, it was stolen in 1966, just months before the tournament was set to begin. Luckily it was recovered, but then in 1970 it was permanently given to Brazil due to a clause issued by Rimet stating that any country that wins the World Cup three times can keep the trophy in perpetuity. In 1983, the trophy was stolen again and never recovered. In the meantime, the FIFA World Cup Trophy was created and is still in use to this day.
