Reverse

In the middle, we see the Order of the Garter arms, which represents an English chivalric order from 1348. Surrounding this is a cruciform design of four shields inspired by the Royal arms. The backdrop consists of floral patterns seen as symbols of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Across the rim is a Latin inscription reading TUEATUR UNITA DEUS ANNO DOM MDCCCXLVII. This translates to May God Guard these United Kingdoms, Year of Our Lord 1847.

History
