History
The original Gothic Crown coin came about when Queen Victoria asked Royal Mint engraver William Wyon to design a new silver crown in honor of her 10th anniversary on the crown. Previously he had worked with Her Majesty for the famous Young Head portrait seen on countless British coins. When the Gothic Crown coin was released in 1847, it was an instant success and today is heralded as one of the finest coins ever produced.
