Obverse

The obverse of 2022 Somalia Elephant Silver Coins features the national coat of arms of Somalia. This design has remained on the obverse since 2004 when the series debuted and features a crowned shield at the center. This shield has a field of horizontal lines with a single star in the middle. It is supported on either side by leopards and accompanied by inscriptions of SOMALI REPUBLIC, 2022, and 10 SHILLINGS.

Reverse

On the reverse side of 2022 Somalia Elephant 1/10 oz Silver Coins is the image of the African bush elephant. In fact, this years design features not just one elephant, but two. This small family herd consists of an adult elephant and its young calf. The two walk along the savanna in left-profile relief with a small flock of birds overhead, the sun at the edge of the design field, and trees on the horizon in the distance. Inscriptions include AFRICAN WILDLIFE, ELEPHANT, and 1/10 OZ AG 999.9.

History

In 2017, the Bavarian State Mint made several additions to the Somalia Elephant Silver Series. Previously, the coins had been available as 1 oz and 1 Kilo options only. In 2016, 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, 2 oz, 5 oz, and 10 oz silver coins all joined the collection.
