Ryu was developed for Street Fighter with karate master Mas Oyama serving as the inspiration for the character. Manabu Takemura and Takashi Nishiyama created the Ryu character for the first game in the franchise, but his appearance changed by the time the second arcade game was released in 1991. In particular, his appearance was altered from a young fighter to a skilled practitioner of karate.

Obverse

Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse side of 2022 Tuvalu Street Fighter Ryu 1 oz Silver Coins. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief in a 1998 design that includes the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. This image was created by Ian Rank-Broadley for the Royal Mint and was used on British coins through 2015. In 1999, various Commonwealth Nations also adopted the design. Inscriptions on this side include QUEEN ELIZABETH II, 1 OZ 9999 AG, 2022, TUVALU, and 1 DOLLAR.

Reverse

In the reverse design of the 2022 Tuvalu Street Fighter Ryu Silver Coin, you will find an image of Ryu. He is shown here in a fighting stance wearing his traditional wardrobe from the franchise. Ryu is often depicted with a karate Gi that has ripped sleeves and he wears a red bandana in the games. Inscriptions on this side include only RYU and the Capcom copyright logo.

History

Street Fighter was a commercial success for Capcom that introduced gamers to a number of new conventions for video games. This included special attacks, six-button controls, and command-based special moves. Players would compete against either computer-controlled characters or human opponents in 30-second clashes. Each fighting took place over three, 30-second rounds.
