The American Gold Eagle has long been a staple of the U.S. Mints offerings, released each year in bullion, proof, and burnished versions. While bullion and proof coins have been part of the program since 1986, the burnished version was introduced in 2006 as a collectible option with a smooth, matte appearance. Since 2011, it has been offered only in a 1 oz weight. Provident Metals now has the 2022-W Burnished American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coin available.
Highlights:
The 2022-W Burnished American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coin comes with official U.S. Mint presentation packaging. This includes a capsule for the coin, a display box, and a decorative outer shipper themed for the Gold Eagle. A Certificate of Authenticity is included with every coin.
Obverse
On the obverse of 2022-W Burnished American Eagle Gold Coins is a classic image of Lady Liberty. First created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907, it shows Liberty walking forward with a torch and an olive branch, with the Capitol Building and sun rays behind her. The inscriptions include LIBERTY, 2022, Saint-Gaudens’ signature mark, and the W mint mark of the West Point Mint.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2022-W Burnished Eagle 1 oz Gold Coin features a more recent design by Jennie Norris. This artwork, introduced in 2021, shows the head of a bald eagle in left-profile view with a high level of detail, capturing the eagles focused gaze and feather texture. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 50 DOLLARS, and 1 OZ FINE GOLD.
History
Burnished Gold Eagles debuted in 2006 in four different sizes: 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz. This range was available until 2008. In 2009 and 2010, production paused due to economic factors. When the series resumed in 2011, only the 1 oz version was released. These coins stand out for their matte look, created by tumbling the blanks with a polishing material before striking.
