Proof American Eagle Gold Coins were introduced by the United States Mint in 1986. The first year of availability featured only the 1 oz gold coin. In 1987, the US Mint issued the 1/2 oz gold coin for the first time. In 1988, the series gained the final two weights with the release of 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz gold coins.
Obverse
On the obverse of 2022-W Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coins is an effigy of Lady Liberty. This portrait of Liberty is a front-facing relief that depicts her figure walking toward you holding up a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. The field includes the U.S. Capitol Building at her feet, sun rays in the background field, and a ring of stars. The inscriptions include LIBERTY, 2022, and the W mint mark of the West Point Mint.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2022-W Proof American Eagle Gold Coin features an American bald eagle. This design shows the bald eagle in left-profile relief with a detailed rendering of its physical features. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and 1/10 OZ FINE GOLD 5 DOLLARS.
History
The 2022 release of Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coins includes a maximum mintage of 24,000 coins. Just 14,000 of those coins are available in these individual presentation boxes with a capsule. The other 10,000 coins are allotted to the release of the annual 4-Coin Set.
