Obverse

The obverse side shows Ostara with her sacred animals, the deer and the hare, and an inscription of her name above. She wears a simple gown and a colored floral garland, with a sacred rune appearing at her neckline.

Reverse

The same rune is repeated on the reverse as part of an elaborate decorative border surrounding a design that evokes an ancient Germanic wooden shield, complete with a boss at its center. This is flanked by a gilded double eagle and deer and accompanied by the inscriptions “GERMANIA 2023,” “1 oz Ag 999.9,” and “5 MARK.”

The Valkyries series is the Germania Mint’s tribute to female figures of myth and legend who have helped to shape crucial aspects of German culture and tradition.
