Obverse
Obverse visuals on these 2023 American Eagle Gold Coins include a historic Lady Liberty image. This design from the $20 Double Eagle Gold Coin features the full-length figure of Liberty in front-facing relief. Inscriptions include LIBERTY and 2023.
Reverse
Reverse design elements on the 2023 Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coin include a new American bald eagle depiction. This new image of the bald eagles head in left-profile relief debuted in mid-2021 and replaced the original Miley Busiek depiction from 1986. Inscriptions on this side read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and 25 DOLLARS 1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD.
History
American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coins have been available in BU since 1986 and Proof since 1987, with no Proof Gold Eagle available in 2009. The 1/2 oz Burnished Eagle was available from 2006 to 2008 only.
