Obverse
The obverse of 2023 American Eagle Gold Coins features Lady Liberty. This design shows the front-facing figure of Liberty as she walks holding up a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. Inscriptions include LIBERTY and 2023.
Reverse
On the reverse side of 2023 Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coins, you will find the new eagle design from Jennie Norris. Introduced in mid-2021, the design shows the head of the bald eagle in left-profile relief. The inscriptions on this side read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, E PLURIBUS UNUM, 25 DOLLARS, and 1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD.
History
Augustus Saint-Gaudens created the obverse design for this series in 1907. It was originally used on the $20 Double Eagle Gold Coin from 1907 to 1933 and is widely regarded as Americas greatest coin design ever.
