Early Release designations indicate the arrival of the coin for certification. To qualify, the NGC must receive these coins within 30 days of the original release from the mint.
Obverse
Lady Liberty features on the obverse of 2023 American Eagle Gold Coins. This design was created in 1907 and first used on the $20 Double Eagle Gold Coin. The artwork shown here captures Liberty in front-facing relief with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. Inscriptions include LIBERTY and 2023.
Reverse
A bald eagle is captured in the reverse design of the 2023 Eagle 1 oz Gold Coin. This design was recently created in 2020 by Jennie Norris as part of the overhaul of American Eagle gold and silver coins. This design is exclusive to the gold series and captures a view of the eagles head in left-profile relief. The field comes with inscriptions of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 50 DOLLARS 1 OZ. FINE GOLD.

American Eagle Gold Coins come in three versions each year. The BU coins are available primarily for investors, with the Proof and Burnished versions aimed at collectors.
