History

From 1986 through the first half of 2021, the American Silver Eagle design went unchanged. Then for the second half of 2021, the U.S. Mint unveiled a brand-new reverse design by the artist and designer Emily Damstra. Featuring a bald eagle in flight, this design replaced the heraldic eagle motif by John Mercanti that had been in use since 1986. This modification coincided with the coins 35^th anniversary and is now the standard reverse design for all Silver Eagle coins.
