The obverse of these 2023 Antique St. Helena Boston Tea Party Silver Coins features a unique bust of King Charles III, a first for East India Company coins. This portrayal captures the King in left-profile relief without a crown.

On the reverse side of the 2023 Antique Boston Tea Party 2 oz Silver Coin, you’ll find a powerful image of American Colonists. This scene portrays colonists boarding ships in Boston Harbor and tossing chests of tea overboard. It is estimated that approximately 341 chests of tea were discarded into the harbor during this historic event.

One of the most contentious issues was the Tea Act of 1773. This act granted the British East India Company a monopoly on tea sales in the American colonies. This meant that the East India Company could sell tea directly to the colonies and bypass colonial merchants. While the tea itself was not heavily taxed, the colonists saw it as a symbol of British oppression and a threat to their economic interests.
