Humpback whales are known for their powerful leaps out of the water and the long songs that echo through the oceans. These giants can grow up to 60 feet in length and weigh several dozen tons, yet they remain graceful as they move through the seas. Now, the 2023 Australian Humpback Whale 1/4 oz Gold Coin is available online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2023 Australian Humpback Whale 1/4 oz Gold Coin comes in a protective plastic flip. The coin is part of a small series released by the Perth Mint and includes the P mint mark on its reverse side.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2023 Australian Humpback Whale Gold Coin carries a familiar portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Created in 2015 for the Royal Mint, this design became the sixth-generation portrait used on Australian coins between 2018 and 2023. It depicts the Queen in right-profile relief with the George IV State Diadem on her head. The inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, 1953-2022, AUSTRALIA, and 25 DOLLARS.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2023 Humpback Whale 1/4 oz Gold Coin, youll find the image of a whale breaching the surface of the water. These whales travel incredible distances each year, moving between feeding grounds in colder regions and breeding waters in warmer climates. The inscriptions read HUMPBACK WHALE, 2023, and 1/4 OZ 9999 GOLD.
History
Once driven close to extinction by hunting, humpback whales have made a strong comeback thanks to international protections. However, they remain vulnerable to modern dangers, including collisions with ships, entanglement in fishing gear, and the effects of climate change.
