Ms. Jong is the designer of the new reverse design in use in 2023 in the Australian Kangaroo Gold Series. This vision of the kangaroo will feature on the 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold coins, but not the 1 kilo coin. Ms. Jong has a number of designs to her credit at Perth Mint, including all of the 2023 Lunar Series III releases.
Obverse
On the obverse of 2023 Kangaroo 1/4 oz Gold Coins, you will find Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief along with a one-time inscription of the dual dates 1952-2022. These honor her reign as Queen of England and mark her recent passing in September 2022. Other inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and 25 DOLLARS.
Reverse
The reverse field of the 2023 Australian Kangaroo Gold Coin comes with a depiction of the kangaroo. This design shows a seated kangaroo looking back over its shoulder toward the grass and a eucalyptus tree on the horizon. Inscriptions read KANGAROO, 2023, 1/4 OZ 9999 GOLD, and the P mint mark of Perth Mint.
History
These early 2023 Australian Kangaroos are the final coins to feature Queen Elizabeth IIs effigy. This design from Jody Clark will remain in production for a few months while Perth Mint develops a King Charles III effigy for its coinage.
