In 2018, the Australian Kangaroo Platinum Coin became the latest platinum bullion coin series introduced by a major global mint. The release of the Australian Kangaroo Platinum Coin was followed by the 2016 issues of platinum coins in the Austrian Philharmonic and Somalia Elephant collections, and arrived at the same time as the British Britannia.
Obverse
On the obverse side of 2023 Kangaroo 1 oz Platinum Coins, you will find a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief for the final time on Australian coins. With her passing in September 2022, Jody Clarks 2015 depiction of the Queen is the last one available to feature on coins of the Commonwealth. Inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and 100 DOLLARS.
Reverse
The reverse field of the 2023 Australian Kangaroo Platinum Coin comes with a depiction of a red kangaroo in left-profile relief. It is shown here in left-profile relief leaping across the field with stylized sun rays around the field. Inscriptions include AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO, 2023, 1 OZ, 9995, and PLATINUM.
History
Australian Kangaroo Platinum Coins have been available since 2018 with unlimited mintages each year. The Perth Mint will only strike the coins through late 2023 when the next issue is ready.
Ordering
These 2023 Australian Kangaroo 1 oz Platinum Coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins are housed in capsules, plastic tubes of 20 coins, or boxes of 100 coins with five tubes in each box.
