Obverse
Jody Clark’s 2015 effigy of Queen Elizabeth II is the centerpiece of the obverse on the 2023 Australian Mother & Baby Kangaroo Silver Coin. This design is a tribute to the late Queen’s 70-year reign, as it includes the 1952-2022 date marks. It’s a fitting addition to this limited-edition release. Inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, 1952-2022, AUSTRALIA, 10 OZ 9999 AG, and 10 DOLLARS.
Reverse
The 2023 Mother & Baby Kangaroo 10 oz Silver Coins’ reverse features two kangaroos – a mother kangaroo standing in left-profile relief, with her young joey standing by her side. The natural foliage in the background field and radial lines filling the horizon make for an eye-catching design.
History
Kangaroo mothers and joeys form a very strong bond. The joey spends almost all of its time in the mother’s pouch, and the mother is very protective of her young. When danger approaches, the mother will often hop away with her joey still in the pouch, using her powerful hind legs to leap great distances. The joey is also very vocal, making soft chirping noises to communicate with its mother.
