After a limited run of 2023 British Britannias featuring Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II for a final time, the series now moves on with its first King Charles III obverse. Highlights:
Over the course of its history, the British Britannia Gold Series has only ever featured portraits of Queen Elizabeth II. Raphael Makloufs third-generation portrait graced the coins from 1987 to 1997. Ian Rank-Broadleys fourth-generation effigy was on the coins from 1998 to 2015, and Jody Clarks fifth-generation portrait of the Queen was on the coins from 2016 to 2023. Now, King Charles III ascends to the coins.
Obverse
On the obverse of 2023 Britannia 1/2 oz Gold Coins, you will find the new left-profile effigy of King Charles III. He is shown here without a crown on his head. The field includes inscriptions of CHARLES III, 50 POUNDS, and D.G. REX F.D.
Reverse
The reverse face of the 2023 British Britannia Gold Coin comes with an image of Britannia. Designed in 1987 by Philip Nathan, this portrait of Britannia has graced the coins since the introduction of the program and is also used on silver and platinum versions. Inscriptions here include BRITANNIA, 2023, 1/2 OZ, and 999.9 FINE GOLD.
History
The new bust of King Charles III featured on these coins comes from Martin Jennings. This first-generation portrait of the new King of England follows British tradition in flipping the orientation of his effigy from his predecessor. With Queen Elizabeth II having used right-profile portraits throughout her reign, King Charles III will use left-profile busts.

These 2023 British Britannia 1/2 oz Gold Coins are available to you for purchase online in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins have plastic pouches for individual specimens and sealed plastic pouches for multiples of 20.
