Obverse
For the obverse design of 2023 Canadian Maple Leaf Silver Coins, you will find Queen Elizabeth IIs effigy on the coins for the final time. This design from 2003 was created by Susanna Blunt and is the lone portrait of the Queens reign to follow the traditional approach for male monarchs in leaving out a crown or tiara. Inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, 5 DOLLARS, and 2023.
Reverse
In the reverse design field of 2023 Maple Leaf 1 oz Silver Coins, the mint features Walter Otts 1979 depiction of the sugar maple leaf. This iconic image of the national emblem has been in use on all versions of the coin since its 1979 debut. Inscriptions on this side read CANADA, 9999, FINE SILVER, 1 OZ, and ARGENT PUR.
History
Canadian Maple Leaf bullion coins will start the 2023 release cycle with Susanna Blunts right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II for a limited time. This is being done to accommodate the development of a new portrait for King Charles III.
