For a large part of its history, the series was available in Troy oz weights. More recently, it became a Gram-based series and is the leading Gram-based coin program in the world. Chinese Panda Gold Coins are available from the Chinese Mint in five weights each year. However, when the series launched this was not the case. The 1982 debut featured four coins: 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz. The next year saw the final coin, the 1/20 oz, introduced.
Obverse
On the obverse of 2023 Panda 1 Gram Gold Coins, you will find a depiction of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This design element has remained static on the obverse of the coins since 1982 and offers an external view of the structure. Inscriptions on this side read 2023 and the nation of issue.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2023 Chinese Panda Gold Coin comes with an image of two Giant Pandas. In this years design, one panda has climbed into the lower branches of a tree and is gazing down at its companion standing against the trunk of the tree. Inscriptions on this field read 1 G, AU, .999, and 10 Yuan.
History
Chinese Panda Gold Coins were available from 1982 to 2015 as Troy oz coins, with the aforementioned five weights available. In 2016, the Chinese Mint changed to the use of Grams for the measurements, transitioning in the process to 30, 15, 8, 3, and 1 Gram gold.
