Chinese Panda Silver Coins debuted in 1983 with a varied early history. From 1983 to 1985, the coins were issued with 25 Grams of 90% silver and were available only as proof specimens. After no coin was issued in 1986, the 1987 coin was again issued as a proof specimen with 1 Troy oz of .925 silver. After another hiatus in 1988, the coins entered annual production in 1989 as 1 Troy oz .999 pure silver coins.
