History
An eclipse can only occur during an eclipse season when the New Moon is close to a lunar node. The lunar nodes describe the two points where the plane of the moon’s orbital path around the globe crosses Earth’s orbital plane around the sun. Unlike a lunar eclipse, which is visible from all regions on the night side of the planet, a solar eclipse is much harder to see. This is because the moon is quite small compared the sun, meaning the perspective must be exact for the eclipse to occur.
