Obverse
On the obverse of 2023 Representatives of the Species Chameleon 2 oz Silver Coins the Public Seal of Niue is found. This seal is present to confirm the coins legal tender status on Niue Island. The obverse also contains inscriptions reading 5 DOLLARS, NIUE, 2023, AG 999.9.
Reverse
The reverse of these Colorized Niue Representatives of the Species 2 oz Silver Coins features a chameleon in rich, vivid color. The lizards body extends around the edge of the field so that the head nearly meets the curled tail. This design is presented in high-relief as well, which lends it a tactile, 3D quality.
History
When discussing chameleons, the first topic to arise is usually their color-shifting abilities. But this amazing quality should not overshadow other incredible features these Old World lizards possess. One of the more amazing qualities of the chameleon is that its eyes can move independently of each other and focus on two different fields at once. Some chameleons also have tongues longer than their body that can wrap around objects, including their prey.
