History
In 1904, production of the Morgan Silver Dollar ceased due to a surplus of silver in the Treasury and the passage of the Gold Standard Act, which limited the backing of paper currency to gold only. However, in 1918, due to the Pittman Act, which called for the melting and re-coining of silver dollars, a small number of Morgans were minted in 1921 to satisfy the demand for silver dollars.
