History

Amazing Fantasy #15 introduced all the classic elements of Spider-Man’s backstory. It featured his original identity as mild-mannered everyday teen Peter Parker, showed the origin of his powers in a radioactive spider bite, covered his early attempts to use his might in professional wrestling, showed the tragic death of his Uncle Ben at the hands of a burglar he later discovered he could have stopped, and revealed his emergence as a hero as he learned the meaning of the maxim “with great power comes great responsibility” are all included. The issue was the launching pad for the character’s highly successful solo title, which led to his becoming a force in multiple forms of media from television to movies and video games.
