History

The double-tailed Czech lion first appeared in heraldic art during the era of the Pemyslid dynasty in the 12th and 13th centuries. Over time, it became the official emblem of Bohemia. The unique two-tailed design helped distinguish it from other European lions and may have been adopted either for visual emphasis or to set the Bohemian arms apart from similar symbols.
