History

Though its named after Roger and Lionel Penrose, the impossible triangle was actually created in 1934 by a Swede named Oscar Reutersvrd. The triangle consists of three beams that connect at right angles, and yet its properties are impossible to create through physical materials. The triangle has appeared in sculpture form in various countries around the world and was also utilized in the famous 1961 Waterfall illusion by M.C. Escher.
