The historic reference to Kintyel found on these coins is simply the Navajo term for Chetro Ketl. The term was reported in 1889 by Washington Matthews, a historian of the Navajo tribe. Translations of the word include broad house, Shining house, and house on the corner. As for the word Din found on these coins, this is simply the name that the Navajo used to describe themselves. It translates as the people.
