History

Edmund Spenser was an English poet who lived from 1552-1599. Believed to be the son of a clothmaker, Spenser studied at The Merchant Taylors School before attending Cambridge for further education. Spensers breakthrough came in 1579 when he published The Shepheardes Calender. Then in 1590, Spensers status as a literary icon was sealed when he presented the first three volumes of his masterpiece, The Faerie Queene.
