Behold the timeless beauty of the Morgan Dollar, an iconic design adored by collectors. This masterpiece, created by Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan in 1878, stands as a symbol of 19th-century American coinage. Its production spanned from 1878 to 1904, with a final striking in 1921. In 2021, the US Mint revived the Morgan and Peace Dollars, and now, in 2023, you can own the 2023-S Proof Morgan Dollar Silver Coin, available for purchase online with certification from Provident Metals.
In 1878, the production of Morgan Dollars involved three mints. The Philadelphia Mint handled the bulk of production, while the San Francisco Mint and Carson City Mint contributed with smaller mintage figures.
The obverse design of the 2023-S Proof Morgan Dollar Silver Coin features a left-profile bust of Lady Liberty, meticulously crafted by George T. Morgan. She wears a Phrygian cap, a coronet crown, and a laurel wreath in her hair.
On the reverse of the 2023-S Proof Morgan Dollar Coin, you’ll find Morgan’s original heraldic eagle designa forward-facing bald eagle grasping the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace, encircled by an oak-and-laurel wreath.
Throughout the history of Morgan Dollars, five branch mints played a role in striking these coins. Philadelphia and San Francisco consistently produced them each year. The New Orleans Mint issued the coins every year except for 1878 and 1921. The Carson City Mint struck coins from 1878 to 1885 and again from 1889 to 1893 before closing. The Denver Mint only produced them in 1921.
These 2023-S Proof Morgan Dollar Silver Coins are extraordinary, graded as PR69. They exhibit full, original mint luster with at most two minor imperfections, typically minuscule contact marks or hairlines, situated away from the primary focal points. The First Strike designation signifies that these coins were submitted for grading within 30 days of their initial mint release.
