The Australian Koala Series is one of the Perth Mints popular bullion programs, loved for its annual depictions of the koala, a cherished native marsupial. While the series started with silver coins in 2007, it has since expanded to include both gold and platinum options for collectors and investors. Right now, 2024 Australian Koala 1/10 oz Platinum Coins are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each of these 2024 Australian Koala 1/10 oz Platinum Coins arrives in a durable plastic capsule to protect its Brilliant Uncirculated condition. With a limited mintage of only 15,000 coins, this release is an excellent option for collectors and investors. The reverse imagery for 2024 was crafted by Ing Ing Jong, known for her incredible artistry in many Perth Mint series.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2024 Australian Koala Platinum Coin features the first portrait of King Charles III to grace Australian coinage. Designed by Dan Thorne, this left-profile image of the King shows him without a crown, marking the start of a new chapter in Australian coin design. Inscriptions here include CHARLES III, AUSTRALIA, and 15 DOLLARS.
Reverse
On the reverse, the 2024 Koala 1/10 oz Platinum Coin features a koala clinging to the trunk of a gum tree, glancing back over its shoulder. The intricate details of the fur and tree bark highlight the skill of the Perth Mints artists. The inscriptions include 2024, 1/10 OZ 9995 PLATINUM, KOALA, and the P125 mint mark.
History
Koalas have a long evolutionary history in Australia. Their ancestors date back to the Oligocene epoch over 25 million years ago, and while there were once multiple koala-like species, only one survives today. This marsupial remains a beloved symbol of Australia and its rich natural heritage.
