The Tudors, including Henry VIII, brought Welsh symbols into their royal imagery. The red dragon was a key element, supporting the royal arms. The Tudor rose also combined red and white, colors tied to Welsh heraldry. Presently, the 2024 British Tudor Beasts The Tudor Dragon 10 oz Silver Coins are available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
All 2024 British Tudor Beasts The Tudor Dragon 10 oz Silver Coins offered here are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Each 10 oz silver coin is housed in an acrylic capsule, with boxes of 15 coins available for bulk purchases. These coins are the largest in the BU silver coin range for this series.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2024 British Tudor Beasts The Tudor Dragon Silver Coins is a portrait of King Charles III. This left-profile relief, created in 2022 by Martin Jennings, is the first portrait of Charles III on British coins. It also follows a 20th-century British tradition by depicting male monarchs without a crown. Inscriptions here read CHARLES III, D.G. REX. F.D., and 10 POUNDS.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2024 Tudor Beasts The Tudor Dragon 10 oz Silver Coins features the Red Dragon of Wales. The dragon is shown seated with its wings raised, clutching a shield. The shield displays the Beaufort Portcullis badge. The inscriptions on this side read TUDOR DRAGON, 10 OZ, FINE SILVER, 999.9, and 2024.
History
King Henry VIII played a major role in highlighting the Red Dragon of Wales within the Tudor Dynasty. In 1534, Henry VIII broke away from the Roman Catholic Church and established the Church of England, with himself as the Supreme Head. This was primarily motivated by his desire to annul his marriage to Catherine of Aragon, which the Pope refused to grant.
